Toi-Gye


Starting Position: Closed "B" Ready Stance  - R37

Toi-Gye: The pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16th century), an authority on neo-confucianism. The 37 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on the 47th degree lattitude, the diagram (+) represents "scholar".

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left inner forearm block in a Left "L" stance.
2) Shift forward and right reverse palm heel strike in a left front stance.
3) Bring the left foot to the right foot in a closed stance 90 degrees to the right, right backfist and left low block simultaneously.
4) Turn 90 degrees to the right and right inner forearm block in a Right "L" stance.
5) Shift forward and left reverse palm heel strike in a right front stance-
6) Bring the right foot to the left foot in a closed stance 90 degrees to the left, left backfist and right low block simultaneously.
7) Step forward and low X-block in a left front stance.
8) Without stepping, high twin vertical punch.
9) Right front kick.
10) Land forward and right solar plexus punch in a right front stance.
11) Without stepping, left solar plexus punch.
12) Bring the left foot to the right foot, 90 degrees to the left in a closed stance, and bring both fists to the hips simultaneously.
13) Move forward with the right foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
14) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
15) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
16) Turn 180 degrees with the right foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
17) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
18) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
19) Bring the right foot to the left foot and move forward and low sung-su block in a Left "L" stance.
20) Shift forward and twin head grab in a left front stance.
21) Right knee strike, Kiop.
22) Bring the right foot to the left foot then turn 180 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a Left "L" stance.
23) Left front kick.
24) Land forward and left spear hand strike high in a left front stance.
25) Step forward and double knife hand block in a Right "L" stance.
26) Right front kick.
27) Step forward and right spear hand strike in a right front stance.
28) Step back 180 degrees and left low block and right backfist simultaneously in a Left "L" stance.
29) Jump 45 degrees to the left and low X-block low in a right rear stance.
30) Move 45 degrees to the right and sung-su block in a right front stance.
31) Turn 270 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a Left "L" stance.
32) Shift forward and right scoop block in a left front stance.
33) Bring the left foot to the right foot and turn 180 degrees to the right and double knife hand block low in a Right "L" stance.
34) Shift forward and left scoop block in a right front stance.
35) Shift 180 degrees to the left and right scoop block in a left front stance.
36) Shift 180 degrees to the right and left scoop block in a right front stance.
37) Move 90 degrees with the right foot and solar plexus punch in a middle stance.Kiop.
